WOMEN’S rowing in Bewdley is going from strength-to-strength after an impressive showing on the River Thames.

For the first time in the club’s history, Bewdley entered three eights for the Women’s Head of the River, a time trial race over the same four miles and 375 yards of the River Thames in London used for the famous Oxford versus Cambridge Boat Race.

Bewdley’s 18-year-olds, Intermediate two and Masters crews joined around 300 others on the “Tideway”.

The Veteran Masters, rowing in the category C (average age 43-50) age group fared best, finished eighth out of 14 in their class.

Bewdley captain Kat Carlyle said: “Women’s rowing in Bewdley is on the up. Since 2010, we have sent two women’s crews to the Tideway.

“This year, for the first time ever, we sent three. Each year we have continued to move up in finishing places. This shows we are constantly improving and getting stronger as a squad.”
