WYRE Forest maintained their good start to the season with some impressive rides over the weekend at both senior and junior levels.

In the Port Talbot Wheelers CC promoted 2up 25 miles time trial, Justin Walters joined regular partner Jez Pile of VC Sevale to finish third overall and second composite team with a time of 58 minutes and 59 seconds.

Andy Overton and Dave Meacham were seventh overall and first team with a veteran in 1-00-28 while Lucy Walters and Paul Gibson recorded 1-06-20 for 23rd place from an entry of 60 teams to win first team with a lady.

In the West Midlands Youth circuit races, promoted by Solihull CC at Tudor Grange, Aimee Lane was the outstanding performer for Wyre Forest taking victory in the under-12 girls category in her first regional race.

Charlie Boddice gained valuable experience while finishing midfield in the under-12 boys race, but Ben Laurence crashed out of a leading group in the closing stages when he clipped a rival’s wheel.

Jamie Crump was always in contention for a podium place in the under-14 boys race, but had to settle for sixth place in a sprint finish.

The following day, he scored another sixth place finish at the Sundorne circuit near Shrewsbury with Ben Laurence making up for the previous day’s disappointment finishing third in a sprint finish in his age group.

Stourport Sports Club are officially switching on the race circuit lights before the British Cycling coaching session today at 7pm, which will be attended by the Mayor of Stourport Cliff Brewer and the Chairman of Wyre Forest District Council Stephen Williams.
