KIDDERMINSTER’S Naomi Folkard has been picked as part of a nine-strong British team which will be competing in the first leg of the 2015 World Cup in China this May.

The Wyre Forest-based Olympic archer has been in good form and recently won a silver in the first leg of the European Grand Prix.

Three female and four male British archers have been selected to compete at the first stage of the Archery World Cup from the recurve category in Shanghai.

These athletes will compete in both an individual and team basis, which includes one team for the recurve discipline, as well male and female and a mixed team competition.

In addition, two male archers have been selected to compete in the individual compound event.

Archery GB has selected a mix of experience and youth from the squad.

Folkard, Amy Oliver and Larry Godfrey – who are all hugely experienced and were part of Team GB at the London Olympics – will be joined by Nicky Hunt, who won two gold medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in the compound discipline and has since switched to recurve.

The newer members of the team consist of Patrick Huston, Ashe Morgan and Kieran Slater – all extremely exciting prospects with the Archery GB squad.

On the compound side, two experienced athletes will represent Great Britain, John Stubbs, double Para Archery World Champion and 2008 Paralympic Champion and Chris Bell, who shot at the 2013 World Championships in Belek, Turkey.

Lloyd Brown, Olympic coach of Archery GB: “There is a real competitive environment within Archery GB to achieve a World Cup place. All archers are under pressure to gain the results needed to compete in Shanghai.”

Following the qualification round, the archers will compete in a head-to-head event, run in the same format as the Olympics/Paralympics, with a 70m target for the recurve archers.

The Archery World Championships have been held since 1931 and the event is organised by the World Archery Federation.
