ISOBEL Bowers and Megan Tinsdale made a splash for Wyre Forest at the Midlands Youth Championships, which were held at the East Midlands International in Corby last weekend.

There were a total of six individual swimmers representing the club, all having worked hard throughout the season to gain regional qualifying times in order to compete.

These swimmers were Bowers (16 and over), Tinsdale (17 and over), Calum Tinsdale (17 and over), John McMahon (17 and over), Jack Rowley (17 and over) and Jordan Chappell (17 and over).

This was a tough competition and the swimmers competed well among the best in the region and, in fact, in the country, with Commonwealth Games gold medallist Adam Peaty swimming at the Championships.

Both Bowers and Megan Tinsdale had strong swims, each qualifying for a regional final.

Bowers was racing in the 50m backstroke and Tinsdale the 50m freestyle, and both girls finished a fantastic sixth in their respective finals. These were amazing results for a small club swimming among strong city-based clubs.

Wyre Forest also had relay teams competing at youth championships for the first time in the last few years.

It was great to see the boys 17-and-over medley and freestyle relay teams of Tinsdale, Chappell, John McMahon and Jack Rowley, the girls medley relay team of Isobel Bowers, Rosie Egan, Abbie Rowley and Emma Osbourne, and the girls freestyle quartet of Bowers, Emma Elwell, Abbie Rowley and Emma Osbourne, all put in competitive displays.

Rosie Egan, Emma Elwell and Jordan Chappell were also all swimming in their first regional championships.
