STOURPORT Boat Club secured a memorable seven wins in the first regatta of the season at Evesham.

Demonstrating strength in depth, the junior squad performed exceptionally well with two wins in the Junior 12 category.

Twins Annabelle and Harriet Murphy secured a first win in their double sculls beating City of Oxford and Ross Rowing Club, while Dan Glover dominated his heats and won comfortably by a boat length in the final against Ross.

Lauren Rhodes and Kate Sweeney showed great boat skills winning their first round race then narrowly losing in their Junior 13 final.

The Masters men achieved wins in the MasC, MasD and MasE events, but the race of the day was left for the Women W.MasC.4+ event where after racing over the 500 metre course against Evesham, it finished a dead heat.

Stourport produced a devastating push off the start in the re-run and never faded to take the win by two lengths.

After a successful start to the season the club are now looking forward to Shrewsbury Regatta next weekend, where Stourport will field 42 crews over the two day event.

Meanwhile, the club have announced this year’s Works Fours rowing challenge will be held on Saturday, June 13.

The annual event challenges local pubs, clubs, offices, schools and factory teams to compete in the region’s biggest community rowing event.

Beginners to rowing have the opportunity to spend time with the club’s coaches prior to the event to ensure they are ready for race day, where teams of four compete against each other to win their division with prizes on offer for each of the winners.

The overall champions on the day will win a free Learn to Row course.

The race is held on the River Severn in Stourport from The Angel public house to the clubhouse which is approximately 400m upstream, and with food and refreshments available all day.

Last year’s winners DRP 3 were representing their business DRP Group, which is based in Hartlebury.

They beat off over 50 other crews competing throughout the day.

Entry fees for the event are £60 per team of four (£20 for schools).

Registration is now open at stourportbc.co.uk/works4.
