ROWING: Stourport Boat Club's Duncan Gwilliam was in great form at the British Rowing Masters Championships.

The National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham saw a record number of rowers taking to the water.

As always, there was fierce competition during the weekend of racing and with the competitors contending with indifferent weather conditions.

All the training hard work and dedication came to fruition for Gwilliam as he out classed the entire field in the Elite Masters E Single Sculls category, winning through the eliminators and then going on to win in dramatic style.

Over the 1,000 metre six-lane course, Gwilliam was two seconds in front of the rest of the pack at the 500 metre mark, only to be pushed by the Irish rower Gerry Murphy of Portora Boat Club right to the line, winning by less than half a second.

This win adds to Gwilliam’s other notable title of Henley Masters Champion of 2014.
