SWIMMING: Round three of the Nuneaton Junior League saw Wyre Forest youngsters travel to Redditch.

This was a tough round, having been drawn against big city clubs like Coventry and Leicester.

Theur only win on the night went to Nathan Lad in the 9-year-old 25 metre butterfly. There were second places for Nathan Lad (9yo, 25m backstroke), Olivia Jay (12/u 50m breaststroke) and Grace Tristram-Brown (9yo 25m backstroke).

Swimmers fought hard for every point and set 33 new personal best times along the way, while a fifth-place finish should see the club retain their place in Division One next season.

Special mention also to Adam Newey who swam nine races on the night, standing in for an injured swimmer.

l Former Wyre Forest member Olivia Gardner represented England in an open water competition in Mallorca.

The junior, who swims for Ellesmere College Titans, took part in a five kilometre race, 7km race and 1.5km race and finished with two fourth and one sixth place.

Head coach Alan Bircher said: “Olivia really made the most of their opportunity to compete for England and we couldn’t have had a more deserving and hard working swimmer to have been selected.”
