A GIFTED Wyre Forest athlete is set to test her skills at the English Schools Track and Field Championships this weekend.

Ellie England, 14, will represent Hereford and Worcester against the nation’s up and coming talent at the Gateshead International Stadium.

The Bewdley High School member qualified for the event earlier in the year with a leap of 5.19 metres.

She has since surpassed the qualifying standard of 5.09m on a host of occasions at various tournaments and competitions.

Ellie was one of the district’s leading lights and in dominant mood at the Hereford and Worcester County Schools’ Track and Field Championships at Nunnery Wood in June, winning the 200m and long jump in the junior section.

She now competes for Halesowen Athletics Club.

Ellie has won many club events and is now qualified to compete in the England Athletic U15/17 championship being held in Bedford, on August 30.

A qualifying standard is required for both ESAA and England Athletics to warrant selections.

While she is studying at Bewdley High School she is set to switch to Heathfield School on a sports scholarship next September.

Ellie said she was “looking forward to the challenge” of the championships.
