BEWDLEY completed the double over Belbroughton after a game with lots of twists and turns in Worcestershire League Division One.

The Wyre Forest got off to a good start with Simon Mauger (59) again in fine form sharing an opening partnership of 71 with Tom Bingham, but although most batsmen made a start wickets soon began to fall.

It took a responsible innings of 39 from Connor Franklin, and a late flurry from Callum Wilson (19 not out) to get Bewdley up to 216-8 from their 50 overs.

Rain meant that Belbroughton’s target was reassessed at 194 from 38 overs, and they got off to a dream start and found themselves at 109-0 after 17 overs.

However, the in-form Wilson then changed the game, first running out one opener with a skilful kick, and then having the other caught at the wicket.

No batsman could get to grips with him. Wilson finished with 2-22 from his eight overs, and Mauger, bowling his loopy off-spin, ran through the middle order.

Belbroughton, from a position that looked unassailable, actually lost by 17 runs.

Had there been a man of the match award, Mauger, with 59 and 5-15, would have been a strong contender.
