THERE was an excellent entry of competitors at the Wyre Forest Company of Archers promoted County Championship tournament held at Upper Arley.

Shooting a York round consisting of 12 dozen arrows at distances of 100, 80 and 60 yards, top scorer for the club and winning the silver medal was Bill Bell in the Gents Compound with 1176 points which included 144 hits and 84 golds .

Scott Potter took the bronze medal with 1158 points, 144 hits and 86 golds.

In the Ladies Compound, Lindsey Brazier placed third scoring 1174 points with 144 hits and 95 golds while shooting a Hereford round of 12 dozen arrows at distances of 80, 60 and 50 yards.

Dave Brazier placed fifth in the Gents Recurve with 855 points including 141 hits and 30 golds while Dann Finn improved his previous best score by 71 points to finish 8th with a total of 776 points.

Melissa Smallman finished third in the Ladies Recurve scoring 885 points with 139 hits and 32 golds shooting a Hereford round.

Shirley Court took gold in the Ladies Compound with 467 points, 71 hits and 21 golds shooting a Long National of six dozen arrows at distances of 80 and 60 yards.

Martin Burbridge placed sixth in the Gents Recurve with Angela Burbridge second in the Ladies both shooting a National round of six dozen arrows at distances of 60 and 50 yards.

In the non-championship Junior events Heike Palmer won gold in the under-12s Recurve with a score of 946 points shooting a Bristol five consisting of 12 dozen arrows at distances of 30, 20 and 10 yards while nine-year-old Charlotte Smallman finished runner-up in her first competition with a score of 568 points.

Freya Palmer continues to improve after changing from right handed to left handed shooting scoring 1058 points in a Bristol four in the under-14s Girls age group so is well on her way to securing her Junior Master Bowman award.
