CYCLING: Wyre Forest CRC took a depleted team to the final inter-club time trial promoted by VC Sevale of Malvern, but scored enough sufficient points to take the series for the second successive year.

Outstanding rides by Jon Howard and Justin Walters, who tied again with a time of 22 minutes and 24 seconds for joint second place, helped to cement the victory, with Andy Overton on 23.08, Lucy Walters on 24.24 and David Briggs on 26.15 providing solid support.

The club’s total of 302 points for the three events put them well clear of Worcester St Johns CC on 260, VC Sevale on 131 and Evesham Wheelers on 62.

It was a return to South Wales for several club members competing in the Cardiff 100 Miles RCC-promoted 50-mile time trial.

Dave Meacham was the fastest for Wyre Forest finishing 20th from an entry of 89 riders in a time of 1.58.41 with Paul Gibson 47th on 2.09.18.

Close behind came Gary Jones, making a welcome return to racing, who finished 49th with a time of 2.09.47 followed by Brad Bradley timed at 2.12.29 for 55th place.

Steve Vanes travelled to the Selby CC promoted 10 miles time trial on the fast V718 course where he produced a personal best performance and club record for the distance of 19-44 while finishing 12th from an entry of 129 riders.
