OLIVIA Turner struck gold again last weekend at the Eastern Area Open in Norfolk.

The 14-year-old Samurai Judo Club player had several much heavier players in her over 63 kilogram weight group, but always looked in control of the contests.

Matt Hemer added a bronze in the boys under-46kg category, one of his impressive wins included a beautiful sacrifice throw.

Three good wins including a beautiful sacrifice throw gained him a place in the semi-finals before he lost to a very good player on a single score early in the contest.

However, he came back well to win the bronze.

In the senior women Laura Dangerfield reached the final with some superb wins before losing and having to settle for silver.

Meanwhile, a group of eight of the younger and up-and-coming Samurai were at the Nottingham U14 Years Open and came away with three gold and two bronze medals.

Bonnie Deeming-Lane started well, with three wins putting her into the bronze medal position.

Older sister Lily was imperious, winning her first contest in just four seconds and then easily defeating all her other opponents by a maximum score to take the gold.

In the boys, Aiden Maguire won three contests before losing in the semis and having to be content with bronze.

Two wins from Dillon Walker put him within striking distance of a medal, but he just missed out in fifth place, and brothers Ben and Sam Hewitt were edged out.

However, the squad finished the day strongly.

Evan Turner took the gold medal, but the standout performance came from Callum Spencer, who spectacularly won all five of his contests not just by maximum points but in fine style to take the club’s third gold of the day.
