OLIVIA Turner was on the gold medal position on the rostrum for the third week running after winning the British Open Special Needs Championships at Stoke Mandeville.

The Samurai Judo Club youngster, who in previous weeks has won gold at the Eastern Area Open and Heart Of England in the mainstream, entered the event and was put in a category with much heavier players, giving away around 15 kilograms (two stones) in each match she was in.

However, she still dominated all three of her contests and beat her opponents in some style to win the gold.

It is the second consecutive year that Olivia has won this event, and she also won gold at the European Special Needs Championships in Amsterdam earlier this year.

Meanwhile, some of the youngest Samurai beginners, aged six to eight years old, have received their first judo grades.

In the boys, Harrison Flello, Ben Wilkes, Jacob Priestnall-Singh and Alex Spencer were graded to red belt, while in the girls, Meghann O’Sullivan, Lucy Hickinbottom and Brook Collins all received the same grade.
