STOURPORT Hockey Club’s Men’s first team were involved in a stirring 4-4 draw against North Stafford in the Midlands Premier.

In a high scoring game, Stourport picked up their first point of the season.

But they will be disappoint - ed not to have earned all three in a game they domi - nated for long spells.

Going into the game missing two of their normal squad it could have proved crucial but the well-organised Kingsway outfit battled to a 1-0 half-time advantage through a Chris Parry deflection from a short corner on 28 minutes.

North Stafford showed intent in the second half and levelled and then soon went in front after the interval.

An Andy Cavendish trade - mark short corner on 52 minutes and a Chris Hill effort on 56 minutes restored the Stourport’s home advantage.

Goals that were hard to come by in the first half were now becoming common in an end-to-end game.

Stafford had equalised but George Southall’s clever deflection on 60 minutes edged them ahead.

But they were pegged back when the away side grabbed a last-gasp leveller.

This weekend, Stourport have a double header.

On Saturday they travel to Northampton Saints for a 2pm start and then follow up on Sunday with another dis - tance trip to Belper (1.30pm).
