STOURPORT Men recorded their second win of the sea - son in the Midlands Premier as they saw off Rugby & East Warwicks 5-3 last weekend.

Travelling to Rugby for the first time in a number of years, Stour knew it was go - ing to be a journey into the unknown against a side who were just below them.

Up against a East Warwick - shire side who had already played many of the top sides, Stourport made a fine start when Dan Petrie fired in a re - verse-stick shot from a tight angle on two minutes.

Petrie then doubled the lead on 12 minutes but suffered a setback when he limped off with a sprained ankle.

Captain Chris Hill added a third on 20 minutes to give the visitors a comfortable lead going into half time.

But Rugby came out on the offensive in the second half and were rewarded with two goals in quick succession.

Andy Cavendish restored Stourport’s two-goal cushion from a short-corner finish.

Stourport managed to resist whatever Rugby threw at them and that included two outstanding goal line clearances from set pieces by Will Terry and then Chris Parry.

Rugby reduced the arrears to a single goal but a thrilling final 15 minutes went Stour - port’s way when Cavendish put the game beyond doubt.

This was a better all-round performance from the Kingsway club, who are growing confidence ahead of Saturday’s home game against Nottingham University.
