STOURPORT Ladies enjoyed a satisfying double header weekend.

The Wyre Forest side edged out Swansea 1-0 on Saturday in the Women’s Conference West and then beat Doncaster in the EHA Cup on penalties the following day.

Erin Preece hit the target as Stourport won in Wales.

A strong defensive display kept the hosts at bay in the first half, which ended goal - less. In the second half both sides came out hard, as they both strived to take the lead, and the match became a fast end-to-end affair.

Then with ten minutes to go Stourport secured another short-corner and after Katie Miller’s effort was cleared, defender Preece finished emphatically.

Rene Johnson then kept the hosts at bay with a match-sav - ing tackle in front of the keeper, allowing Stourport to walk away with a fantastic victory over the league leaders.

Stourport then showed their spirit to edge past Doncaster.

Kate Robinson and Hannah Goss scored to ensure the match went to penalties.

Sarah Cavendish opened the scoring in the shootout with a tremendous air shot into the top of the net.

Doncaster equalised, but both Goss and Lora Symonds scored while Amie Richards kept Doncaster out with two brilliant saves.

Finally up stepped Irene Johnson to slot the ball past the home keeper, crushing Doncaster’s hopes of pro - gressing and taking Stourport through to the third round.

The seconds got the better of Beeston 2-1, as a goal in each half gave them their first home victory of the season in Midlands Division Two.

Emma Pollock scored the opening goal midway through the first half, but Beeston equalised with just five min - utes left.

But with seconds to go, youngster Sophie Thompson scored the winning goal.

Stourport Men’s seconds got the better of Stafford 5-1, thanks to a brace for Callum Stanley, one Andy Smith and Matt Derbyshire.

Lee Slip scored a hat-trick as the thirds saw off Burton 10-0, while Ben Harris (2), Pete Moulam, Rob Lashford, Steve Ellis, Pete Gibbins and Jon Yates also scored.

The fourths defeated Sutton Coldfield 5-3.
