STOURPORT Rowing Club won two medals at the Henley Sculls Head time trial event last weekend.

The Wyre Forest outfit were was competing against some of the top rowing clubs in the UK including Leander RC, Marlow, Reading, Upper Thames RC to name but a few, racing over 3,000 metres upstream through to the Royal Regatta finish.

Stourport delivered very strong performances against a quality field, winning in the SEN1x single scull with Luke Grainger.

Mary Bytheway and Deb Edwards then comfortably defeated Marlow by 30 seconds in the W.MasC.2x double scull event.

Many of the junior squad were in action, with Sam Branford competing against 23 other crews to come in seventh in a time of 13 minutes and 23 seconds in the J16 single sculls.

There were determined performances in the WJ14 1x category from Katie Sweeny and Lauren Rhodes, led by Molly Clarke who came joint second with a time of 15.39.

Dan Glover (J14 1x) sculled very well to come fourth out of 10 crews, with Reading winning by 24 seconds.

A superb row from the J16 squad of Hugo Walton, Harvey Thompson, Matt Gould and Callum O’Reilly with a time of 11.45 delivered a worthy second place, beating Worcester and Star and Arrow RC.

The final race of the day came in the WJ14 4x+ for the coxed quad of Hattie Murphy, Sophie DiMambro, Amy Furminger-Burrows and Belle Murphy, coxed by Molly Clarke. Racing past the famous Henley Temple Island, the young crew clocked up a time of 13,58 and secured third place.
