Stourport 2 West Bridgford 4

STOURPORT Men lost a crucial game against mid-table rivals West Bridgford in the Midlands Premier.

The Wyre Forest side were hoping to win and keep close contact to the sides around them going into the December break.

Too often this season Stourport have started slowly, and here they found themselves behind after only two minutes.

The opposition doubled their advantage on 10 minutes and Stourport then fell 3-0 down as half-time approached.

But a trademark short corner routine by leading scorer Andy Cavendish ensured Stourport ended the first half trailing by just two goals.

West Bridgford looked the more dangerous of the sides over the first 35 minutes but it was the Kingsway-based club that came out the stronger at the start of the second half.

They reduced the arrears to a single goal following skipper Chris Hill’s effort midway through the second half.

Stourport were looking the more likely of the two teams to score before West Bridgford bagged a fourth goal against the run of play.

This weekend, Stourport travel to top-of-the-table Leek but do welcome back Dan Petrie for the game.

The 18-year-old has been sorely missed over the past two weeks and is sure to boost the side
