BEWDLEY Town are hoping to get some help to make their pitch problems a thing of the past.

Manager Phil Mullen said the club was seeking professional advice to help fix the drainage issues that plague the playing surface at Ribbesford Meadows.

The club are also set to talk to officials from Worcestershire FA.

Town spent several thousand pounds adding draining to the pitch in the summer but the recent wet weather has exposed more issues.

But to do so the club will need financial help to pay for the work.

Mullen said: “We need help to fix the drainage problems. It’s not going to be cheap to sort it out and we’re only a community club.

“We’ve had advice off experts and we’re talking to the FA later in the month.

“The drainage we installed in August is working really well but it’s everywhere else that’s the problem.”

Bewdley have not played at home since the end of October and the recent torrential rain meant they did not kick a ball in anger for a month.

They did resume the West Midlands Premier at Smethwick Rangers, where they lost 3-2, despite Luke Morris firing them ahead twice.

Mullen said: “We were a bit rusty but paid the price for some mistakes.

“I was pleased with a lot of it considering we hadn’t played for a month.”

The manager also admitted that Saturday’s home clash against Wolverhampton Casuals was unlikely to go ahead because of the waterlogged pitch.
