KIDDERMINSTER and Stourport AC’s men’s squad made the short journey to Droitwich for the third race of the Winter Race League.

The squad had an increased turnout with 12 runners completing the race, meaning the club fielded a B team for the first time in years.

Two runners from the previous top scoring six were missing due to injury and sickness but the A side still finished a credible 10th place out of 15 and maintain 10th place overall.

They closed the points gap to the two teams above and, with a good performance in the final race in February, they could still move up in the final league placings.

The six-mile course was very wet after the recent heavy rain and soon churned up into thick mud.

Archie Roberts led the team home in 18th, with Ben Danvers (20th), Brian Currier (76th), Steve Smith (83rd), Russ Barnes (114th) and Paul Roberts (134th) giving good support.

The B squad consisted of Ian Clough (136th), Graeme Peirson (141st), Stuart Granger (145th), Martin Willmott (151st), Dave Meacham (152nd) and Mick Hudson (184th).
