STOURPORT Hockey Club’s veterans booked their spot in the last eight of the National Over-50s Trophy last Sunday with a 6-4 victory at West Bridgford.

The Wyre Forest outfit were 4-0 ahead after 20 minutes, with David Knott scoring twice in that time.

Two further goals from David Bedford and Paul Devey put Stour in control.

Bridgford fought back with a goal of their own in the 25th minute from open play.

But Knott completed his hat-trick on the half hour and was then replaced by Frank Colwill.

With good displays from defender Godfrey Lamb and midfielder Bruce Baron, Stour led a 5-1 at half-time.

Bridgford still came out more determined in the second half and it paid off as two corners produced as many goals to give the hosts hope of a comeback.

But Devey scored his second five minutes from time to seal victory, despite a late Bridgford consolation.

Meanwhile, the men’s first team entertainRugby and East Warwickshire on Saturday (2pm start).

Stourport Ladies' Seconds started 2016 with a convincing home win over their Worcester counterparts.

Abbie Yapp scored in the first half. as the hosts dominated with their hard work and clinical passing.

Further goals from Sophie Thompson, Jade Marshall-Walker and Hannah Goss left the final score at 4-0.

The Thirds stay second in the Worcestershire League after drawing 2-2 at home to Harborne.

In the Worcestershire Division Two, the Ladies' Fourths stay unbeaten after thrashing Worcester 7-0.

The hosts were missing some key players but led 4-0 at half-time, with captain Hannah Yates scoring twice.

In the second half, Stour changed formation but didn't let up as Yates completed her hat-trick.

Elouise Brooks, Roise Connolly, and Stacy Jones were also on the scoresheet for a rampant Stourport.

Elsewhere, the Fifths crashed to a demoralising 8-0 defeat at Birmingham-based Kings Heath firsts.

The Men’s Seconds demolished their visitors Stafford 7-1 in the West Midland Premier League match.

Adam Leeke helped himself to a hat-trick, while a brace from Knott, and goals from Matt Darbyshire and Andy Smith, were enough to seal the three points in a dominant display.
