WYRE Forest CRC rider Jon Howard has got his season off to a flying start with two wins in a week.

In the club’s first event in the midweek Time Trial Championship he had a narrow winning margin of five seconds over clubmate Steve Vanes.

A few days later he was almost four minutes clear of the field in the Ludlow CC promoted 25-mile time trial, winning with a time of 55 minutes and 14 seconds. He was followed by Ian Connolly in seventh in 1:04:17.

In a windy 50-mile veterans road race, promoted by Echelon Cycles near Malvern, Joe Rowe and Ken Bradbury placed fifth and sixth respectively in a bunch sprint finish in the E category with Dean Sibthorpe finishing in the main group of the C category in his first race for 21 years.

The latest round of the Midland youths circuit races, promoted by Wyre Forest CRC, at the Stourport Sports Club attracted almost 170 riders.

Aimee Lane was second in the under-14s girls race and Sam Cooper's sprint finish secured sixth place Cooper followed up his ride the following day with fourth place in his age category at the Shrewsbury race circuit, just missing out on third by half a wheel.

Erin Boddice continued to improve and rode to sixth place in a fast-paced under-16 girls race. In the women’s race Vicki Boddice sprinted home, taking a superb seventh place, beating several higher ranked riders.

The category four men’s race saw Michael Boddice struggle with illness, but battle home for 36th place.

The next round takes place at the Shrewsbury venue on May 15.
