CYCLING: Despite several top riders missing and Jon Howard suffering a puncture and failing to record a time Wyre Forest CRC still managed to win by a narrow margin the first of this year’s inter-club time trials with Worcester St Johns CC and VC Sevale.

Steve Vanes set the fastest time with strong support from Justin Walters and Paul Bailey. Howard secured 13th place from an entry of 127 riders in a Beacon RCC promoted 10 miles time trial in a time of 21 minutes 32 seconds. He was closely followed by Andy Convery showing a return to form with 17th place in 22-01.

In the ladies race, Denise Burrows recorded 27-48 for 17th and Karen Riley 28-01 for 19th. The Boddice family enjoyed a day at the Mid Shropshire Wheelers Sunday Series of circuit races where Charlie finished third in his age group after getting forced onto the grass in a sprint finish. Erin consolidated her position at the top of the girls under-16s category with a solid ride into third place while Vicki’seighth-placed finish moved her into second in the overall standings.
