BEWDLEY batted their way into a potential match winning position against Droitwich when rain arrived to wreck their chances of victory.

That was after Bewdley had posted an impressive total of 250 all out before play had to be abandoned.

Dan Platt produced a quickfire 29 while Robert Crane cracked a further 41, as both provided Connor Franklin with some solid support as he went onto record a run a ball 72.

Franklin fired eight fours and two sixes in what proved easily his best innings in first eleven cricket to date.

That was after the medium pace of Max Young had kept a tight rein on the early order batsman as he claimed five for 72 from a full 17 overs while Droitwich skipper Martyn Davies finished with figures of four for 40 from his slow left arm spin.

One of the features of Bewdley's innings was their running between the wickets, which was of the highest quality and a total of 250 seemed well above par for the contest, but the arriving rain meant the target couldn't be put to the test.

Bewdley have a local derby on their hands this Saturday when they entertain Stourport at Lower Park in Worcestershire County League Division One.

BEWDLEY Cricket Club play host to the Worcestershire County League side this Sunday who will be taking on Herefordshire at Lower Park.

Worcestershire will be led by current Bewdley skipper Jack Mills and will include a number of local players including Paul Thomas and Jamien Rudd from Cookley, Redditch player Jack Roberson, Max Young of Droitwich and Feckenham's Tom Coulson.

Bewdley spokesman David Mills said: "We haven't staged a representative game for quite some time and it's always a nice little coup to get these games."

The match will be 45 overs per side and starts at 1-30pm
