AMATEUR golfer Paul Judge moved a step closer to playing with a star of the European Tour after winning the prestigious Bridgestone event at Cleobury Mortimer.

The 22 handicapper won the stableford DriveGuard Trophy competition with 44 points which now sends him on a journey to the regional final which takes place during June.

If successful, Paul will then be able to make an appearence in the Pro-Am Bridgestone Challenge at the end of August at Heythrop Park in Oxfordshire.

The winning team at Heythrop will then be invited to play in the Pro-Am at the British Masters at The Grove in October.

The event is supported by Sky Sports and Paul will get the chance to play with a house hold name from the sport.

Yet Paul admitted his surprise when winning at Cleobury Mortimer following a spell of poor form and quipped:

"This must be the first round in ages that I haven't lost a ball. It was a real shock victory.

"I started with a double bogey on the first hole and I think that helped me relax. I just felt that the pressure was off from then. I didn't check my score after that and it obviously worked!

Paul produced his winning round while playing with his son Tom, who came third. The pair are pictured together.

ADAM Cook came out on top of Cleobury Mortimer's Men's Aggregate Medal competition.

He managed to par the last four holes to finish with a nett 65 and took top spot on count back from Worcestershire Under-16's county captain Jack Severn.

Ian Orme pipped Lee Glasby for third place on back count after both carded a nett 68.
