SEVEN weeks into the season and Cookley's record unbeaten run came to an end with defeats for both the firsts and seconds in the Worcestershire County League.

After been put in the first's openers, Paul Thomas (90) and Jaimen Rudd (61) took the game to Hagley with such ferocity that a score over 320 looked certain.

A middle order collapse saw six players scoring just 32 runs between them with only Jon Stanaway 43 offering any resistance to post a disappointing 250-9 on a perfect Lea Lane batting wicket.

Hagley showed all their experience in carefully grinding out the required runs losing six wickets with an over to spare.

Firsts remain fourth and travel to league leaders Colwall on Saturday for another tough fixture.

The seconds were asked to bat and were in a perilous state at 70-7 with the first six all clean bowled.

Sixteen year olds Bailey England (36) and Charlie Barton (45) rescued the innings with a fine partnership but 149 was never enough and Lye won with ease.

The second team slipped to seventh in the table.

Meanwhile, the table-topping thirds chose to bat and achieved a very competitive score of 231-5.

Chairman Phil Dixon hit 69, while veteran John Martin struck 39 not out.

In reply, Pedmore had no answer to the wily leg spin of Brian Davies (4-16) to secure a 148 run victory.

Cookley's thirds remain top of the division.
