JACK and Katie Lambert crowned a wonderful performance for Kidderminster and Stourport Athletics Club at the Shropshire County Schools Championships which took place in Telford.

Both of them were awarded the Bristow Trophy for being the outstanding boy and girl at the event.

Jack, who is 14, won a gold medal in the discus, a silver in the shot and then set a new championship record when winning the hammer event. It’s the second year running that Jack has won the best individual boys performance at the meeting.

Not to be outdone, 17 year old Katie also pulled out all the stops to land the Bristow Trophy for a third time!

In the morning, she won the women’s Under-20 hammer competition at the Midlands Championships in Nuneaton and then drove to Telford where she promptly broke the 19 year old championship record.

But Kidderminster and Stourport’s success in Shropshire didn’t stop there.

Multi event specialist James Milburn, who is 16, repeated his trio of gold medals from the AC County Championships by winning the Under-17 boys 400 metres hurdles, the triple jump and discus.

Millie Gough won the Under-15 girls shot and hammer, setting new championship records in both events.

Kieran Mayall had to settle for bronze in a hotly contested Under-15 boys long jump competition which saw him miss out on gold by just 5cm in a field of over 20.

Fran Milburn continued her good form this season when the 17 year old won silver medals in the under-20 women’s hammer and discus.

Kidderminster and Stourport success wasn’t just confined to Telford.

Georgie Knott and Jess Surridge followed up their AC County Championship victories by winning the shot and hammer respectively at the Hereford and Worcestershire Schools Championships which were staged at Nunnery Wood in Worcester.

They will now compete for their county against Shropshire at the Mason Trophy event taking place at Birmingham’s Alexandra Stadium this weekend.

This is followed by the English Schools Championships which takes place at Gateshead in July.
