WYRE Forest cyclists were in excellent form at the Worcester St Johns CC 10-mile time trials.

Steve Vanes snapped up fourth place in 20mins 18secs and was closely followed by teammates Jon Howard, who claimed seventh place in 20-42, while Andy Convery was 11th quickest in 21-18 enabling Wyre Forest to clinch the team prize.

They were supported by Stuart Walker who was 31st in 22-14, Bill Haslam 70th in 23-52 and Paul Gibson 72nd in 23-53.

Tom Ward, of Team Echelon-Rotor, took top spot in 19-38 from a total of 120 entries.

Denise Burrows bagged 13th place out of 32 riders in the ladies race with 25-56.

Howard and Vanes continued their good form at the Cambridgeshire Chrono TT where their claimed fourth and sixth places respectively in their age groups, gaining qualifications for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships which take place later this year in Australia.

Wyre Forest’s Ken Bradbury missed out on an early break by four riders in the recent Tommy Godwin Memorial Road Race but managed to snatch second place in the bunch sprint which gave him sixth spot overall and second in his age category.

The club also excelled at the Shrewsbury Sunday Series of circuit races.

Jamie Crump claimed a cracking victory in the Boys Under-16 race, while teammate Oliver Bill finished in eighth spot.

Sam Cooper produced another solid race to come home fourth in the Under-14 boys race, while Louis Smith and Charlie Boddice were sixth and seventh respectively in the Under-12 category.

Erin Boddice consolidated her series lead in the Under-16 girls category when claiming fifth place, but Kinga Ingram was completely out of luck when crashing twice and had to settle for fourth spot in the Under-14 girls event.

In the Senior competition, Vicki Boddice was eighth overall and the first fourth category rider home while the in the men’s event, Michael Boddice was 11th, Andy Cooper 12th and Matt Boazman 18th.

Steve Vanes proved an emphatic winner in the Wyre Forest midweek time trial when clocking 34mins 16secs, almost four minutes clear of second placed Justin Walters in 38-13 with David Briggs third clocking 38-21.
