CYCLING: With Steve Vanes on marshalling duty and several riders on holiday there was a low turnout at Wyre Forest CRC’s latest round of the midweek time trial championship, allowing Jon Howard an easy victory despite suffering the effects of some heavy training sessions.

Adam Holmes of DMW Bridgtown finished a close second in his first race on the Great Witley 11 miles circuit and Stuart Walker put in a strong ride for second place in the championship race.

This week’s race will be a one kilometre sprint at the Stourport Sports Club where the junior, youth and juvenile riders will be taking on, and beating in some instances, their older senior riders.

On Saturday, the club will be hosting the latest round of the Midlands Youth Series of circuit races with over 150 riders from across the Midlands and Wales expected to converge on the Stourport circuit.

Midweek TT championship results: Jon Howard 26-38; Stuart Walker 27-36; David Briggs 29-01; Bill Haslam 29-46; Mark Phillips 31-06; Matt Boazman 32-44; Jacqui Phillips 32-45.

Other results: Adam Holmes; (DMW Bridgtown) 26-48; Matt Smith (Stourbridge Velo) 27-53.
