COOKLEY continued their trend of losing the toss but that didn't stop them securing a commanding 85 run success over rock bottom Oldswinford in Worcester County League Division One.

Skipper Paul Thomas made it nine out of 11 times he has lost the toss this term as Oldswinford immediately inserted Cookley to bat.

But Thomas was quick to make amends and led from the front with a quickfire 66.

Jaimen Rudd reeled off a further 70 while veteran Adam Nicholls added 24 as Cookley posted a competitive 239 for nine.

Aussie ace Jace McVey then snapped up four for 20 with the ball, while Danny Soley struck with two for 42 and Gary Mills who mopped up by taking three for 42 as Oldswinford were removed for 154 all out.

The Seconds soon lost three quick wickets against Oldswinford before Mitch Taylor with 82 and veteran Jon Martin with 54 steadied the ship.

That was followed by a cameo 27 from Andy Gorol as Cookley set a target of 216 to chase.

In a thrilling finish, Oldswinford came up five runs short of victory closing on 212 for nine, Mitch Taylor taking three for 17.

Cookley Thirds recovered from being seven for three at one stage following two freak run-outs to reach 162 for nine against Harborne.

Stuey Nicholls made his debut and scored an immaculate 75 not out to provide the bulk of that total.

Opponents Harborne reached their target with three wickets to spare thanks to some generous bowling although 14-year-old Lewis Plant did well to take three for 33.
