MARK Phillips is looking forward to Stourport Swifts’ high-profile friendly clash against Stourbridge tomorrow (7.30pm ko).

The Glassboys visit Walshes Meadow in an another good game, with boss Gary Hackett aiming to bring a very strong squad to Wyre Forest.

Phillips said: “It’s going to be a good test for us as Stourbridge are a very good side.

“I always think that the games against the higher placed sides are better because they know how to treat a friendly.

“Sometimes the teams from lower down are focused on winning the game, which is understandable.

“But for us, this is a chance to play against a high quality side and get some extra fitness.” Stourport have made an encouraging start to their pre-season friendly programme, with a 1-0 loss to Worcester City on Saturday.

Tom Sharpe headed home a first half goal to separate the sides.

Swifts then drew 0-0 with Bewdley on Tuesday night.

“Both games were good workouts,” added Phillips.

“The Worcester goal came from a set piece where our goalkeeper was blocked but overall I though we played well.

“We ended the game against Bewdley strongly which was encouraging.”

The manager is hopeful of retaining the majority of last season’s squad but is also keen on signing keeper Mark Malanaphy, who has impressed in the last two matches.

l Meanwhile, Bewdley’ have made a testing start to their pre-season preparations.

They kicked-off their friendly schedule with a 4-0 loss to Littleton, who saw a strong second half line-up school all of their goals.

Town then battled to a 0-0 with Stourport.

They entertain Tuffley Rovers on Saturday (3pm ko) and Lye on Tuesday (7.30pm ko).
