STOURPORT claimed local bragging rights in Worcestershire League Division One after they saw off Cookley by three wickets last Saturday.

Winning the toss and choosing to bat first, only batsmen Jaimen Rudd (83) and Adam Nicholls (53 not out) provided any substance for Cookley as the posted 217-6 from their 50 overs.

Three wickets from Steve Yarsley (3-40) and good economical bowling from Stourport’s other bowlers made it difficult to score freely.

In reply, the home side got off to a flyer with openers Ryan Delo (52) and Kevin Renecke (68) getting the side to 120 without loss.

A slight batting collapse meant it was left to captain Craig Siwicki (30no) and vice captain Matt Delo (17no) to see Stourport home with two overs to spare.

Stourport remain third in the table and go to Hagley on Saturday (1pm start), while Cookley are at home to Worcester this weekend.

Stour Seconds were disappointing in losing to Evesham, despite 103 from Chris Parry, while the thirds romped to victory against Alveley thanks to a century for Dave Cook and a quick-fire 83 from Sam Hayes.

The fourths fell short against Barnards Green.

l Cookley Seconds bagged a welcome 33-run victory against Rushwick Seconds.

It was a memorable day for veteran Mike Wood, who hit a maiden century for the Lea Lane men (105no), with Matty Goode supporting with 49.

While at one point, the 235-5 posted looked as if it may be under par on another excellent Cookley track.

A mix of youth and experience sealed the win with 16-year-old Tom Pinder (2-22) and veteran spinner John Martin (3-37) doing the damage with the ball.

The seconds travel to Avoncroft on Saturday and move up to ninth in Division Two.

In Division Seven North, Cookley Thirds thrashed Romsley and Hunnington Seconds by 133 runs.

Despite the absence of skipper Phil Dixon, the they produced an excellent all-round effort by bowling Romsley out for just 91.

Stand-in skipper Martin Williams ook five catches during the game.

Not to be outdone by his brother, fellow veteran Stuart Nicholls top-scored with 66, with veteran Brian Davies (4-14) the chief tormentor with the ball.

The thirds are fourth in the table and host Fiveways Old Edwardians on Saturday.
