HETTY Tinsdale was the star for Samurai at their senior competition, which welcomed entries from across the UK.

Fighters from as far as Cornall and Northern Ireland descended on their Zortech Avenue base.

Tinsdale shone in the ladies section and defeated rivals from Northern Ireland and the Midlands before she powered to the final and defeated a rival from Oxford to take gold and earn points towards her black belt.

Olivia Turner had an excellent couple of wins against players from Birmingham and Oxford to get herself into the final, but lost against a player from Leicester and had to settle for silver.

She also entered the open category and took another bronze with a good performance.

Laura Dangerfield was competing, firstly in the third level black belts category, where she reached the final before losing to a Plymouth girl.

But she took her revenge on the Plymouth player in the open section with a maximum points win.

She reached the final but was edged out by a British international from Bristol.

In the senior men’s section, Lucas Kent, 14, made his debut in the lower grades section, in the lighter of the two weight categories and won bronze.

There was a silver for Ryan Killworth in a heavier category, while Paul Spencer won a tough series of bouts to secure gold.

In an all Samurai contest, Sam Woodward defeated Lewis Mills as he went on to take bronze.

Spencer then just missed out on the bronze on the other side of the draw.
