A WOEFUL batting display ensured Bewdley fell to a heavy defeat at the hands of Burghill.

Bewdley again batted first, on a blameless pitch, but were unable to come to terms with a Burghill attack which gave very little away.

Only Mike Harris of the senior batsmen made any meaningful contribution with a well compiled 54.

At 104-8 Harris was joined by Lewis Williams who contributed a sensible 19 to a partnership of 42, but Bewdley’s final total of 153 was deeply disappointing.

Defending such a modest figure, Bewdley’s opening bowlers were both in good form. Martyn Carr (3-30) and James Marsh (2-33) took all five wickets.

At 87-4 Bewdley had a remote chance of victory, but with no time pressure and the pitch still playing well Burghill eased home with some comfort.

The seconds went down by 21 runs to Netherton.

The Black Country side made 252-8, with Nadeem Shaoib hitting and an unbeaten 102.

Bewdley’s reply got off to a slow start when they collapsed to 29-3 but Matt Thwaites made 53 and Luke Cooper 66.

However, Ben Lewis (3-31) and Ibar Hussain (2-26) took wickets for Netherton as the Wyre Forest side were dismissed for 231.
