IMPRESSIVE Kidderminster moved up to second in the Birmingham League Premier as they notched up an eighth win ten games as they saw off Wolverhampton by 19 runs.

The Chester Road side close the gap on runaway leaders Berkswell, who they play away this weekend, to 53 points.

In a tight clash it was Kidderminster's bowler who held their nerve.

Wolverhampton had won the toss and asked the home team to bat first, which yielded early results as they took two KCC wickets for 61 runs by the 18th over.

Nathan Round (10) and fellow opener Craig Wood (28) fell to the bowling of Adam Lawley and UsmanArif.

Arif took the next two wickets, with Jon Wright lbw for 35 and by the 27th over KCC were 98-3.

Then disaster struck, with five wickets falling for only 25 runs as Wolverhampton's pace attack stepped up a gear.

Acting skipper Neil Pinner (17) was caught by Wasim Jaffer, Mike Hill (6) was caught by Jack Parr bowled Lawley, and then Richard Kimberlin (0) gave Arif his fourth scalp with a catch by James Hammond.

Connor Smith fared no better when he wasg out first ball to Arif, before keeper Tom Kimberlin (4) was bowled by Lawley as Kidderminster collapsed to 123-8 after 34 overs.

Tail end duo Chris Russell and Gareth Williams added 31 runs in the final few overs, with the latter hitting 26 run as Kidderminster finished on 183 all out.

If KCC’s batting had appeared fragile, then the visitors were far worse as they lost five wickets for 24 runs.

Former Wolverhampton bowler Russell dismissed Simon Lycett (5), James Hammond (12) and Adam Lawley (2).

Jaffer, who has 31 test caps for India and has around 23000 runs playing in Indian cricket, teamed up with Mike Smith as the away side reached 103.

But when Smith was caught by Craig Wood off Russell's bowling, the wickets tumbled around Jaffer and Wolverhampton slipped to 164 all out.

It was a second five wicket haul for Russell, while Smith took 2-27.

Kidderminster face their biggest test of the season on Saturday at Berkswell, who have won 10 of their 14 matches.
