CLEOBURY Mortimer member Jack Severn topped the net and gross competitions at the club’s second junior open.

With some great scores entering from the word go, there was a high standard in the competition.

After a four-under gross on the weekend Severn led the gross and nett categories with a two-over-par 70 and gross 69.

Constance Brooks of Gaudet Luce also had a solid round, shooting an 80 gross to earn the best girls’ gross prize.

There were excellent nett scores of 69 and 68 coming from Rosanna Halls and Lili Rose Hunt, who would take runner-up and third place respectively in the girls’ nett competition.

As for the boys’ nett prizes Jack Belli shot a nett 70 for third place and Elliot Jones finished with a 69 for second place.

The best scores of the day would be taken by the very last group out, with Mark Hewlett scoring 67 to win the boys’ nett prize.

However, the girls’ nett winner and overall champion was won by Charlotte Helme of The Grove, who shot a 66 to lift the trophy.

Meanwhile, 15-year-old Severn set a new personal best at the club’s Stableford competition when he shot a gross 67.

The teenager is Worcestershire under-16s’ captain and also a starter for the under-18s.

He is the latest bright young player to emerge from the club.

But Severn’s score of 44 was not enough for him to win the competition.

Ian Orme shot a personal best 44 points, including 24 points on the back nine, to snatch first place on countback.
