MEMBERS of Wyre Forest CRC riders rode the Prudential Ride London sportive which preceded last weekend’s televised road race.

Although not a race many riders set themselves a target time to aim for, with fine sunny weather a fast pace was ensured from the start.

Fastest for the club was Andy Convery who covered the 100 miles in four hours, three minutes and 49 seconds.

He was followed by Justin Walters in 4:13:02, Paul Darby in 4:28:09 and 62-year-old John Smith who comfortably beat his target time of six hours with an excellent final time of 4:49:26.

There were good rides from Tim Rose (4:49:52), Stephen Smith (5:20:35) and Ian Bunch (6:40:29).

Meanwhile, Vicki and Michael Boddice had a more leisurely ride with times of 7:35:46 and 8:33:30 respectively.

In the final inter-club time trial promoted by VC Sevale a depleted WFCRC team lost out to Worcester St Johns CC.

There was the satisfaction of producing the fastest time with Steve Vanes covering the 10 miles in 21:17, more than a minute clear of the next rider.

He was supported by Gary Jones (24:13), David Briggs (25:05), Lucy Walters (25:10), Matt Boazman (26:20) and John Smith (27:14).

Jamie Crump placed 23rd from 141 finishers in the first prologue stage of the European Junior Cycling Tour of Assen run in damp conditions.

There will be several more stages throughout the week where Crump can test himself against some of the top European junior riders.

In the final standings of the Mid-Shropshire Wheelers circuit races Sam Cooper was first in the under-14 boys, Erin Boddice was third in the under-16 girls and Vicki Boddice finished runner-up in the Ladies category.
