STOURPORT hosts one of the biggest regional events this coming weekend, with over 500 crews competing in 130 events rowed along the Severn in the annual two day Stourport Boat Club Regatta and Sprint.

Single and double sculls, quads, fours and eights will battle it out along the 1,000-metre river course with competitors coming from all over the UK.

Club president Pete Lashford said: “Stourport has a big reputation for hosting one of the leading UK regattas, and the level of competition will be at the highest throughout the weekend.”

The town’s first regatta was held in 1876 and handsome prize sums were offered, open to all England and invitations were sent to many top rowing clubs as well as to neighbours Worcester, Tewkesbury, Evesham and Bewdley.

The event starts on Saturday with the first racing starting at 8.30am until late afternoon both days.

Entry is free and spectators are welcome with food and drink available all weekend.
