CYCLING: This week’s Wyre Forest CRC midweek time trial incorporated the club’s 10 miles championship race run over the popular Rylands Lane course.
Clear winner of the championship event was Jon Howard in a time of 21 minutes and 41 seconds, followed by Gary Jones on 23-34 and David Briggs (PB 24-04) and just edging top lady Lucy Walters by a few seconds.
The race attracted a large number of non-Wyre Forest riders, with Jacob Tipper of Pedal Heaven recording the excellent time of 20-22, but they were all eclipsed by National champion Richard Bussell of AeroCoach who set a course record of 18-48.
Steve Vanes took a win in the Saracen RC 10 miles time trial in a time of 20-20 and followed up with seventh place in the Coventry CC event with a time of 20-58.
Jon Howard missed his start so his finishing time of 24-34 included a three minutes penalty.
In the Pontypool RCC Welsh Championship event, Amy Lane, 12, rode her first road time trial and recorded 25-48 to take the junior girls title.
