RISING Kidderminster hammer thrower Katie Lambert crowned a glorious season when she was selected to represent Great Britain Juniors at the Manchester International.
The juniors took on teams of senior athletes from around the UK plus a team from the Combined Forces – many of whom had just missed out on selection for the Rio Olympics.
The hammer competition included a guest appearance from Canada’s Commonwealth champion Sultana Frizell.
Katie said: “It was quite a shock and somewhat intimidating to find myself competing against the Commonwealth champion – but she was very friendly and gave me lots of advice.”
Katie, 17, competes for Kidderminster and Stourport Athletics Club which has a strong squad that includes Great Britain Masters international Lynette McKeown.
There have been plenty of other highlights for Katie this year – including the successful defence of her Under-20 women’s title when competing for England at the Welsh International and regaining the English Schools Championship crown in Gateshead.
