KARATE starlet Gregory Gowland secured two silver medals at the Unity World Championships.

The Stourport youngster came second in both the Kumite (Fighting) and Bo-staff weapons forms at the event in Lincoln on September 25.

Gowland was fighting for a world title but narrowly lost in the final. He was also competing in musical weapons forms with the Bo-Staff.

His coach Nathan Salmon, from Urban Trix Academy in Solihull, said: “Gregory shows all the attributes of a world champion and will work hard to hopefully take the crown next year.”

He trains at Kidderminster’s Young-Gloves karate club and is the WKU European champion in Kumite 55kg division.

His brother Benjamin Gowland sadly had to miss out on this competition due to pulled ligaments in his arm.

He recently placed second in the WKU European Championships 50kg division. The brothers will be back in action in November in the England Karate Championships.
