BEWDLEY Town boss Phil Mullen summoned all his players in for extra training this week in the wake of their 3-0 defeat to Malvern Town.

In a tale of two halves, Bewdley bossed the opening 45 minutes but couldn't get past goalkeeper Charlie Weaver who continually kept them at bay with a string of fine saves.

The second half was a complete role reversal as Malvern took charge and netted with goals from Brian Craven, Nathan Hayward and Reece King.

Bewdley spokesman Steve Godfrey said: "I don't know what Malvern said at half time, but it clearly worked as they looked a different side in the second half.

"We pressed and tried to close them down in the first half but Weaver pulled off a couple of fantastic saves.

"They did the same to us in the second half and we couldn't live with them.

"I think Phil told the players a few home truths after the game. There were no excuses, we had a full squad to select from."

Bewdley have the perfect opportunity to bounce back this Saturday when they entertain rock bottom Gornal Athletic who have lost all 12 league games this season and have failed to pick up a single point as a result.

Bewdley Town Reserves fared little better as they were beaten 4-2 by Wonder Vaults in West Midlands League Division Two with Matt Kirby converting both Bewdley goals.

The Reserves visit Shropshire side Allscott this Saturday.
