STOURPORT Swifts boss Mark Phillips has praised his side's defensive performance against Boldmere St Michaels last Saturday.

Swifts halted a run of two defeats with the 0-0 away point despite having to contend with the absence of a host of regulars.

Jim Hanson, Reece Wager, Matt Fulloway and Ben Maund all missed the clash.

However, Phillips was pleased with how solid his side looked.

He said: "We probably should have won it but our main aim going into the game was to be more solid after our last two defeats.

"We felt we'd given away some poor goals in our previous both games that could have been prevented.

"We also had to deal with four players being away, three of which were out of the back line. We handed starts to others though and they did well and showed me the options I have in the squad.

"We could have won it but I think we were maybe a little deep at times which made playing on the counter attack a bit difficult.

"The point and that defensive display gives us something to build on."

Swifts don't have a game this weekend but return to action in the Worcestershire Senior Urn at home to Alvechurch next Tuesday (7.45pm kick-off).
