STOURPORT Swifts boss Mark Phillips says Tuesday night's draw with Heanor Town felt like a missed opportunity to get back to winning ways.

Their winless run extended to eight games with the 1-1 stalemate at Walshes Meadow as they failed to hold onto their lead.

Swifts bagged the opener from the penalty spot after just 20 minutes. Reece Shilvock converted after Sam Beasley had been brought down in the box.

However, it was lead that Stourport failed to hold until the break as Heanor hit back just two minutes before half time.

Phillips thinks conceding so late in the half proved crucial.

He said: "I thought we did reasonable well and were the better side early on. There was then nothing in the game for long spells but they managed to get back into it.

"We cleared the ball but then didn't get our marking right when the ball was put back in.

"I think it would have been a different game if we could have held our lead until half time. I think we could have really pushed on from there. Instead they got a lift at an important time.

"In truth I don't think we created enough chances to win it, even after they had a man sent off late on.

"It does feel like an opportunity missed again. We are playing well at the moment but aren't quite getting what we deserve from games.

"There is still improvements for us to make but it does feel like we're edging closer to picking up another win."

Swifts will go to Walsall Wood this Saturday (1pm kick-off) before hosting Pegasus Juniors in the Worcester Royal Infirmary Cup next Tuesday night (7.45pm).
