LEWIS Pountney hit four goals as Bewdley Town beat Smethwick 5-1 last Saturday.

The striker took his tally for the season to 23 from 12 games as his side extended their unbeaten run in the West Midlands Premier League to five games.

Boss Phil Mullen was delighted with the victory. He said: "I'm obviously pleased because we had to work hard.

"We did that and got rewarded. We scored just before and just after half time and though they got back into it soon after the goals eventually came as the game went on.

"Overall I think it is up there with some of our best performances this season. We did really well in every department."

Luke Morris bagged Town's other goal as they moved up to seventh place in the table.

Mullen was full of praise for his star frontman Pountney, saying: "He has been a breath of fresh air both on and off the pitch. He has done really well for us so far and his record speaks for itself."

Bewdley now face league leaders Haughmond at home this Saturday (3pm kick-off).

"I'd like to think we can go into the game with no inhibitions," added Mullen.

"They are a very good side and it will be a good challenge for us."

Darren Steadman will miss the clash but Nat Drew could return to the first team fold after returning from a long-term elbow injury suffered in the first weeks of the season.
