BEWDLEY Town are hoping a Football Association grant will help them solve their pitch problems.

The club have applied for a grant after also carrying out improvement work of their own over the summer.

However, that work wasn't enough to prevent last Saturday's clash against Haughmond being postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Manager Phil Mullen explained: "The game wasn't far off from going ahead but in the end didn't make it.

"The areas we worked on over the summer weren't the issue, it was one or two other areas that were the problem.

"We have applied to the FA for a grant with the view to improving the main and secondary drainage.

"We will hopefully hear in January if we've been successful.

"Until then we will do what we can. It hasn't helped that the water level of the river is so high at the moment."

Bewdley, who are on a six-game unbeaten run, will look to continue their fine form when they go to Willenhall Town this Saturday (3pm kick-off).

Goalkeeper Darren Steadman wasn't available for the Haughmond clash had it gone ahead but is now back in contention this weekend.
