STOURPORT Swifts put clear daylight between themselves and the Midland League Premier relegation zone this week after brushing bottom of the table Brocton aside by a 3-1 margin.

Swifts effectively put the result out of sight by half time after building a 3-0 lead thanks to a couple of goals from Andy Hudson after Matt Fulloway had fired them into a fifth minute lead.

Manager Mark Phillips admitted: "We've been on the wrong end of a few dodgy results recently where we've lost by the odd goals, when in most cases, it wasn't deserved.

"But against Brocton, we got an early goal and that seemed to settle us down.

"Brocton tried to come back at us in the second half and finally managed to pull a goal back by catching us out on the break. But in truth, we should have made the score much more comfortable than it was.

"We've been giving away stupid goals recently, Coventry Sphinx was a classic example when we were 2-1 up and managed to lose by conceding a last minute goal.

"It's those types of games that effect confidence, which dips, but that's what you get with young sides.

"The win at Brocton was just what we needed."

Phillips has effectively ruled out James Hill for the remainder of the season after sustaining a long term knee injury.

And although Reece Shilvock has recently switched to join rivals Alvechurch, Phillips confirmed he had plenty of cover in place.

Phillips was keen to run the rule over several of his fringe players this week in a Worcestershire Infirmary Cup clash with Hereford side Pegasus Juniors.

Swifts will then look to continue their winning trend when they host AFC Wulfrunians at Walshes Meadow this Saturday.
