STOURPORT Hockey Club's U16s girls were among the medals at the England Hockey national club finals.

The Worcestershire youngsters finished third after a weekend of matches at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre.

Lucy Hawkes and Charlotte Harmer scored to secure a 2-1 win against Exeter club Isca in their first pool match.

The girls then found themselves facing last year's beaten finalists Southgate and the match remained goalless at half time.

Southgate converted a penalty corner before Hawkes equalised for Stourport. The finely-poised match was decided when Southgate slotted home a winner.

Stourport next took-on Beeston who had already been eliminated from the tournament and finished the first half 1-0 to the good after an Abby Deller goal.

Results elsewhere meant another goal could have put Stourport through to the final but it was not to be following no further scoring.

The Worcestershire side were to face Ben Rhydding in the play-off for third place, goals from Sophie Thompson, Charley Atkinson and the prolific Lucy Hawkes cancelled out three from the opposition to take the game to a penalty shoot-out.

Stourport 'keeper Jess Biddle made some outstanding saves and when captain Lorna Mackenzie hit home third place was secured.
