YOUNG pace prospect Patrick Brown took six wickets against Barnt Green to help Kidderminster to their first victory of the season.

The confidence-boosting away success was the club's first win in six Birmingham and District Premier Division fixtures this campaign.

Skipper Neil Pinner and Nathan Round steadied their innings before promising George Hatfield hit a top score of 59.

They helped Kidderminster to recover from the loss of early wickets to reach 179 all out, with Green captain Andy Sutton proving the pick of the home bowling attack with figures of five for 46.

But Sutton found himself upstaged in reply by Kidderminster's rising Worcestershire bowler Brown, 18, who produced a match winning spell of six for 25.

Pinner was delighted to come out on top and is now keen to back up the performance when they welcome second-placed Berkswell to Chester Road this Saturday (noon start).

He said: "It was a great that we got the win.

"We had a poor start, were three down in three overs, but came back really well.

"Myself and Nathan Round managed to put a good partnership together, which was just what we needed at the time. It wasn't spectacular but it did enough to settle us down.

"Nathan batted really well for his 43 on his first appearance for us this season.

"We've then done enough to get the win with Patrick Brown starring with the ball. He's done well for us this season but it was nice to see him get his rewards with his wickets on Saturday. He didn't let the batsmen off and consistently bowled well. He's going to be an exciting talent.

"We showed this week what we can do if everyone is on it and firing. We now need to look to put of run of wins together if possible."

However, Kidderminster's chances will be hit this weekend with the loss of Matt Pardoe and Round to their teaching duties as well as youngsters James Kinder and Hatfield.

"It's tough having to adjust when people aren't available but whoever comes into the side will be coming into a winning team that has a bit more confidence about it," added the captain. "Hopefully they can help us back it up and play their part."

Sunday will see Barnards Green visit for the league’s Twenty20 Challenge Cup (11am start).
