KIDDERMINSTER'S Samurai Judo Club look to have a new young star starting to make his mark in competition.
Jake Ashen won the silver medal last weekend at the Heart of England Open Championships in Walsall.
Jake, aged 13, defeated three players on his way to the final, starting with an excellent win against a Liverpool player and then further wins against players from Northern Ireland and Bristol.
In the final, he lost out to a strong opponent from the north of England, but was happy with his silver medal.
Jake, who has previously finished fifth at the British National Championships, is part of a judo family.
His elder brother and sister have both participated in judo and younger brother Harry recently won gold at the English Minors Open, whilst father Nick won gold in 2015 at the British Veterans Championships and is currently in training to win back his title at that event this year, having been unable to attend last year’s event.
